The Walls Aren’t Straight (and I Ain’t Been Drinkin’)

Sounds like a good opening to a hit country song, but no, it’s way too real after buying our Wausau custom home.

Now, there is no denying my affinity for the processed grape!

But rarely have I ever gotten drunk. Really there was only one time, and I learned my lesson after I accidentally mixed cold medicine with a drink and it was mayhem after that. The walls were spinning and moving and rocking back and forth…ugh!

I’m not seeing things, and no, Willy Wonka does not live here.

So you can imagine the flashbacks that were conjured in my mind when my wife said, “Hey, these walls aren’t straight!?”

Now you would think after paying Wausau Homes Kalamazoo huge amounts of money they would get my walls straight. Well, no, so same song second verse…

I contacted Wausau Homes Kalamazoo and they actually told me: We know it’s an eye sore but would you take a couple hundred dollars to live with it ???

UMMM NO! Sorry, you need to fix it.

That was four months ago and still no repair has been made.

They Did Me Dirty, Detroit Style!

Have you ever been down those abandoned streets in Detroit and seen all of the graffiti?

Well now I don’t have to go that far, all I have to do is walk down to my basement and Bam! There it is! I have no idea if this was Wausau Homes Kalamazoo’s idea or the painters, but no one asked me, the home owner, the one paying for the “Custom Home!” Well I guess I can’t argue the custom part, it truly is!

When I asked Wausau Homes about the stain and what they were planning to do about it.

Graffiti: Wausau Style

Their reply was, shall we say, less than stellar. They told us we were voicing our complaint too late in the process and that it shouldn’t matter because someday when we finish our basement we’ll cover it up anyway.

Well, I have never been in a home where this would be acceptable for a contractor to leave a house this way.

This is my Wausau  Homes Experience.

I need a refund!

How Can You Miss This?

There is a place where the stairs from the basement to our main living area turns at a 90 degree angle. In that turn there is a small platform, may I say, a 5×5  square, then up you go to the main floor.  On that  platform  (for lack of a better word ) this was left and made it past the move-in inspection of our Wausau Homes Kalamazoo team.

How did this pass a move in inspection ????

Well, this did get fixed, but it took four months !!!

This is like a calling card for crapy service, and I got to see it every time I went downstairs for four months.

Oops, I’m sorry, it was four months and 28 days.

Way to go Wausau Homes !

Backwards and Upside-down!

As you can see from the home page picture we purchased four sliding glass doors for the front of our house built by Wausau Homes. Two open from the main living room and two open from the basement. After living in the house for a short time I noticed a 1/4″ space where the basement doors would join when fully closed, and cold air was was freely coming into the house.  I let Wausau Homes Kalamazoo  know of the problem. I thought they would order new doors after sending them pictures.  Surprise! After four months of waiting,  Justin, a new hire, came out to look at the problem. ” They’re on backwards! And upside-down!

Backwards and Upside-down Wausau Homes

All of them!” Wausau Homes did it again… four Michigan winter months with a  1/4″ gap in two doors because of backwards and upside-down installation.

No, they did not offer to help with my propane bill!

Siding, Is It Still There?

Well it’s been over three weeks… on 7/16/18 I emailed my Wausau  Homes Builder, Wausau Homes Kalamazoo, and still have yet to get a response. This is the second or third time the same piece of siding has come off. Surprisingly the sub that did the siding told me last time he was here, “Well, I did not secure that top piece the way I should have because I ran out of the pieces I need, and I thought it would hold.”  Well sir, I’m glad I could pay you to do a job over and over again!

My wife asks me every time we leave the house

Where is Wausau?

, “Is it still there?”

Yes, Honey, it’s still there, dangling by a thread.

This is my Wausau experience.

Hello World!

If you are looking to build a custom home and are thinking of going with Wausau Homes this blog is for you.

My wife and I contracted with Wausau Homes in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and our house was completed on December 20,  2017.

It has now been 6 months and we are still fighting with our builder to finish the home to specifications.

The posts to this blog will be over the topics  we have had to deal with.
